Raw Organic Chia Seeds

My research online proved to be very educational in many ways. I had no idea chia seeds packed such a punch. Their scientific name is Salvia hispanica. It is a species of flowering plant in the mint family that is native to central and southern Mexico and also Guatemala. Cultivated by the Aztec's and Mayans, it was one of their greatest commodities and was used by warriors to help them sustain energy during battles or long treks. It was considered to be the food of the gods. The seeds in their raw form are a perfect source of protein (20%), oil (34%), and dietary fiber (25%). They also have a high level of antioxidants. The oil that they produce is a alternative way of getting essential omega 3 fatty acids. Oh and they are gluten free as long as you get organic raw chia seeds. These little seeds are a raw foodies dream come true.
Just a Few of the Health Benefits of Chia Seed
Chia seed is also something diabetic or pre diabetic people should seriously think about incorporating into their daily diet. Chia seeds fiber is soluble and when it enters you digestive system in a gel like form it actually slows down the conversion of carbohydrates to sugar. It acts sort of like a natural filter within the digestive system. Instead of being flooded with carbohydrates a diabetic who uses this before with meals literally regulates the flow of carbohydrates into the system. How cool is that? My father is diabetic so I'll be sharing this with him for sure. If your looking to drop a few pounds the chia seed can help with that too. Being that the seed swells in water it makes you feel full. I can attest to this. The first time I took it I simply plopped it in some water and drank it. I took about 12 grams in one 16 once glass of water. I don't recommend this really. I wanted to see what the seed tasted like all by it's self. It has virtually no taste. It's a bit gritty but for the most part not at all difficult to handle. I was pretty full after I got it all down and its been like that every time since. I know blend it into my morning strawberry and banana smoothie. Its pretty much the best smoothie power boost out there. You've got the perfect amount of fiber, protein, and omega 3's in one little scoop of seeds.
Where to Find Raw Organic Chia Seeds
There are too many online stores to count. I haven't done a ton of research as to where the best value is and who the best vendor is yet. I've only known about this little gem for about 10 days. I'll do some serious research and post what I find within some future articles on chia seed. I'm also going to contact my local natural food store to see if they sell it or can recommend a company locally. Be sure to do your due diligence before forking over the credit card number.
The more I read and research about chia seeds the more I'm convinced it's something I'll be implementing into my daily diet. Often the saying goes : “If its to good to be true, it probably is!” What I have found thus far is that it is for real. The Aztecs and Mayans were using it for hundreds of years and considered it one of they're greatest commodities. If it didn't work they would not of put such high value on it. The countless medical journals that I skimmed all point in the same direction. Its good for you. I mean really good for you! I'll finish out my thirty day trial and post a few more articles on my findings personally with it. I will also do more research as to the best values and places online and locally to find it.
